Making Dreams Possible

There is no such thing as impossible, ITS JUST A WORD. After all it actually says I’M POSSIBLE

Most people have dreamed of being someone special or big at some point in their lives. Have you ever dreamed of being the one to hit the game-winning home run? Most little girls and boys have big dreams, whether it is of being a beauty queen or a rockstar, a surgeon or president? We all dream…And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?

As humans, we often have great aspirations and dream big dreams. Humans tend to dream big dreams and have great aspirations, but often these dreams become nothing more than dreams. Aspirations can easily fall to the wayside as our dreams die.

This is a sad development in our lives. Rather than experiencing exciting adventures in self-actualization, we get mired down in the humdrum of day-to-day existence.

However, you know what? If we only learned to aim higher, life would be so much better.

Setting goals is most difficult when the word impossible is used. People get hung up on the idea that they can’t accomplish them. It’s impossible. They can’t do it. No one can do it.

The problem is, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human achievement.

Take a look at the humble bumblebee and you will see why scientists were baffled. The bumblebee could not fly in theory, they said. Fortunately, no one has told the bumble bee that. So fly it does and beautifully so.

On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams but never acting upon them. What’s the outcome? Frayed aspirations and broken dreams.

Doubt and self-limiting assumptions will prevent you from pushing past what you deem impossible. You will find yourself clinging to the impossible dream if you cling to the sky without working towards it.

Here is an exercise you can try. Jot down some goals you have in your life on a sheet of paper. List down things you are confident you can accomplish under one header.. In a second column, list the things you might be able to do. In a third column, list the things you will never be able to do.(or think that are impossible)

As you look at all the headers below, give every effort to accomplishing the goals listed under things you know you can do. Check them off as you accomplish them. After you have checked all the goals under that heading, try completing the goals under the other header-the one that says “you may be able to accomplish.”.

After the items that you wrote under ‘things I could maybe do’ are achieved, you can move the goals under things that are *impossible for you to do* to the list of things *you may be able to do*.

As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begins to seem possible after all.

You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to set a high goal and to work toward that goal little by little. A goal that is completely unrealistic, however, is not a good idea either.

Dreamers who fail to work hard toward their goals end up disappointed and disillusioned.

In contrast, a hundred years ago, if you told someone that man could go to the moon, they would laugh at you. Were you to tell them you could send mail from here to the other side of the earth in just a few seconds, they would think you had lost your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities.

Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. It takes work and discipline to accomplish one’s dreams. Be aware that that 1% has to be a big dream, rather than something that is easily accomplished.

Anyone who keeps fit will tell you that there can be no gains unless you push yourself out of your comfort zone. Do you remember the old adage, “No pain, no gain?”? Well theres some truth in that, in that we must activate ourselves, put in the work, take the risks, sometimes the pains.

Dream on, friend! Don’t let your perceived limitations hold you back. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.
